“We’re excited to be moving ahead with the construction of a new off-leash dog park in our community. It’s something that our citizens have been asking for. I am confident it will be a well-used facility by our local citizens, and I expect it will also attract visitors to our community,” said Ponoka Mayor Kevin Ferguson, adding, “The Town would like to thank everyone who provided their input on the new dog park design.”
Where Will the New Off-Leash Dog Park Be Located?
The new park will be constructed on the east side of 49 Street, just south of 57 Avenue and across from the Town of Ponoka Operations Department.
The new dog park aligns with Council’s strategic priorities of enhancing the quality of life for Ponoka citizens through improvements to recreational amenities. Planning and design development of the proposed new dog park are also based on recommendations in the Town of Ponoka’s Downtown Action Plan and Recreation Master Plan.
What Will Happen to the Existing Off-Leash Dog Park?
Once construction of the new dog park is completed, the current off-leash dog park in the Battle River Valley (east of the pedestrian bridge and north of 57 Avenue) will close, and the fencing and signage around that facility will be removed.
