What is the Ponoka Adaptation and Sustainability Action Plan?

The Town of Ponoka is preparing for how changing weather patterns may affect our community.

The Ponoka Adaptation and Sustainability Action Plan will help us identify actions that protect our people, infrastructure and economy. It’s about planning for the future we want and can build together, one where our Town and community remain safe, vibrant and livable for generations to come. A well-structured plan can also strengthen the Town’s ability to pursue and secure diversified funding opportunities that will help us build our vision for the future.

Changing Weather Patterns

We have all noticed changes in the weather over recent years, hotter summers, more intense storms and unpredictable winters. Across Alberta, we have seen more frequent flooding, hailstorms, heavy snow, cold snaps, heat waves and drought conditions in recent years.

These types of weather events can damage property, strain our infrastructure and affect the health and safety of citizens.

The Ponoka Adaptation and Sustainability Action Plan will help us prepare for and reduce these impacts on our community, infrastructure and the local economy.
